The Science Of Drawing
Year 7 are chewing through the basics! This week they're looking at dynamic tone. With clamp stands and lights, they're really interrogating these simple shapes to better understand and replicate the effects of light on form. It was an intense lesson, and some fantastic work was produced - laying some really sound foundations for the more complex observational work to come.

'Tates' are like busses...
You don't see one for ages, and the two come along at once! The Trent College 6th Form trip to London was a whistle stop tour of the great and the good in Art, showcased in the Tate Britain and Tate Modern galleries. Some of the world famous masterpieces were well know to our students, and other works were unknown and challenging. They handled both with aplomb!

What A Good One Looks Like!

In this case, a Year 10 overview of the Vanitas genre in painting. Julia has delivered on all fronts here, and ticks the boxes for the brief set:
- Notes are are well written and comprehensive.
- A decent title and good standard of presentation.
- Images are relevant to the topic.
You can see from the photo perhaps, that many of the images flip over to reveal even more information.
Well done Julia!

More dazzling title pages from Year 9
It's September; it's 'Title Page' season in Trent College Art Department! Check out these fantastic covers from Group 9-2. The quality is certainly worth a mention - as is the sheer diversity of this fairly open brief. Well done Year 9 - let these examples serve as inspiration for all that follow! Congrats to Lauren, Lizzie, Jack, Lucy and Benedict (the budding artists whose work is featured here).

Year 10 get to grips with 'Vanitas'
Year 10 Art Students have embarked on their first GCSE project based on 'Vanitas' painting. Tonally dynamic photographs of skulls are the first port of call - and students will be working from them to produce some gritty, and visually striking mixed media drawings. Here are a few of our favorite photos from the session.

Is this normal ?!?!
Squidging your face up for a photograph! In any other subject/situation - perhaps not. In Art however, different rules apply! A typical Saturday morning - and Year 13 are in working on their Self-Identified Brief coursework. Some are working from primary source material, others are producing secondary source materials to work from in the form of photographs (well done Shannon for volunteering to model!). Looking forward to seeing the results!

1st Post! Year 9 Title Pages
Here's the first of Mr Robinson's Year 9 students (91.b) to deliver their sketchbook title pages for assessment. Some fantastic, creative pages were submitted, and the pictures that follow include some of those chosen by their peers as examples of good practice. All those that appear here achieved A1 grade (top effort/attainment). Well done to Olivia, Katarzyna, Harry G, Harry S and Lauren - and thanks for your hard work!
