Year 10 WAGOLLs!

You do know what a WAGOLL is, don't you?

Congrats to Julia, Charlotte and Emily (all Year 10) - whose research pages are shown here. Each page has a good balance of analysis, general information, opinion and all are well presented.

Good job!

Year 11 Darkroom Workshop: Sneak Preview!

This is the view in our upstairs studio today, as dozens of freshly minted photograms are hanging to dry after a fantastic Year 11 darkroom workshop. The images are created in negative after exposing photographic paper (on which students have carefully arranged their chosen objects) to light. The resulting photograms can later be flipped to positive, or left as they are, depending on the desired effect. Expect a post showing examples of the finished articles soon!

Well done to the Year 11 group involved, and huge thanks to our Art Technician, Charlotte, for all her hard work and expertise!

7W working on fundamental drawing skills...

7W have been set the task of finding themselves on this blog! If you have managed to do so... Hello 7W! Can you see yourself focusing on this tricky drawing task?

For anyone that wasn't there, check out this hard working Year 7 group, getting to grips with this exercise. By the end of this session, pupils were making decisions about how to light a subject, how to draw these simple shapes accurately, and then apply the appropriate amount of dynamic tone. As we move through the curriculum, these fundamental skills will stand them in good stead as they attempt increasingly sophisticated forms.

We'll done 7W. Great lesson!

Year 12 checklist...

'Exciting materials' - check
'Extractor fan on' - check
'Latex gloves' - check
'Year 12 Students ready to rip into some large format, expressive drawings' - check!

Having never tried this combination of materials before (Graphite, oil pastels and white spirit), Year 12 get stuck into some observational drawing which will contribute to their 'Gluttony' coursework portfolio. Though unfamiliar with the medium, they have been ambitious in both scale and approach - and some fantastic drawings are beginning to emerge!

Year 10 Vanitas Drawing

Year 10 have completed their first drawings for the Vanitas project. They've taken a few weeks to produce, and were inspired by the dynamically lit photos  they took at the very start of September. The drawings are all 40x40cm, and made from graphite and gouache paint. Also included here, a couple of details so you can really see the layered mark-making technique that has gone into producing them.
