Observational Drawing

A huge part of what we do at Trent College Art Department focuses on observation drawing. It's a key skill/ assessment objective at GCSE/A-Level, and a discipline we return to time after time at KS3 to prepare for this. These pineapples were recently drawn by pupils in Year 9 (as part of a controlled assessment), and showcase just how talented some of our pupils are, even at the tender age of 13/14.

They were produced from direct observation of primary source material (ask a Year 9! they'll be able to decode this statement for you!), and were created over two lessons (actual drawing time, after tuition, about an hour and ten minutes).

Wow!

Year 7 Kandinsky Prep...

First week back, and 7W have delivered a superb piece of prep based on the work of Wassily Kandinsky. This has formed part of their mini-project on colour, and in particular - how to choose colour combinations that either juxtapose or harmonise with one another. These A5 pieces of work were created at home over the Christmas Break, and epitomise the dedication many students have to the subject, even at this very early stage in their time with the department.

They also brightened up a very wet and windy January morning!
